Why Work-life Hubs?
Solutions to My Old Story
In my early days as a freelancer, I was acting like a circus juggler—rushing a deadline on my typewriter (yes, ancient), feeding my baby, and answering a telephone call—all at once!
Later, I rented an office and designed it “brilliantly”—front entrance to the kids’ playroom, back entrance to my office. My sister joined in, running her boutique downstairs with her children around.

We thought we had nailed it—until one day, my five-year-old nephew walked in, looking for playmates: “I’m bored.” BOOM, my place became an instant war zone.

In 2018, as an empty-nester, I volunteered at community library in a mall, where many parents worked remotely. A team of mothers and volunteers ran storytelling and enrichment classes for their children. Parents focused. Children engaged.
Then the pandemic hit. The library closed—and never reopened. That’s when it hit me: this wasn’t just a programme. It was a missing solution.

So, I started experimenting with a work-life hub in Subang Jaya where mothers can attend digital training and work remotely while empty-nesters run enrichment courses for their children.

Freelancers with children need not pay hefty sums to rent the pop-up space. Instead of working in silos, we can create a sustainable co-working and co-childcare space within our condominiums or housing estate.

Why Work-Life Hubs Matter Now…
Co-working and
co-childcare hubs
These are set up in housing estates, condos, or libraries. A team of mothers run children's programs while others work.

Half-day or flexible work arrangements
Mothers have focus blocks of time to work and spend the rest of the day with their children.
Teamwork and contingency plans
During emergencies, the workflow can continue with contingency plans and work-from-home.
Ecosystems that support remote work
Neighbourhood hubs ensure work continues even during lockdowns.
Less dependent on maids or babysitters
Industrialisation has sent women to work in offices, but the Internet brings work back to the home.

Learn and earn from working remotely
Flexi Associates train homemakers and empty nesters in remote work to earn a side income.
